Suffering reminds us that we are, and hedonistic pursuits make us forget about our connectedness. <br /><br />Now I will never think of "Misery loves company" the way I used to!<br /><br />When I look back over the misery in my life, it's minus bitterness. Why? Over and over, I've drawn on those years for empathy and wisdom to share with those I've met who are now suffering in very similar capacities. It's like I went through a period of thirst, only to find out, years later, that I carried a flask from which I did not drink so that I would have water to give those who needed it.
